2018 Play to Change Exhibition

Exhibit Title Play to Activate – Compact-ivating Oil Street
Exhibition Title Play to Change
Exhibition Venue Oi!, North Point, Hong Kong

Hong Kong has been ranked no.1 of “Most Unaffordable Housing” in the world for seven years. For many people here, living in tiny flats is the inevitable choice. However, is a compact living space necessarily boring and depressive? In the exquisite showroom of Oil Street, the exhibition and workshop invite visitors to imagine and stack their dream homes with 1:1 pink Tetris sponge blocks and 1:20 white foam blocks. Following the theme “PLAY” of the Play to Change Community Project, this event triggers participants’ curiosity and interaction, invites them to think and create with their imagination, move and exercise with their bodies. Through the act of interactive playing, participants acquire more knowledge on architecture and design, understand more about our city living.

Throughout the 40 days of the exhibition, the crack and wearing out of the pink sponge blocks are the evidence of how much energy and fun the participants have released. The theme “PLAY” has been driven to its extreme. All participants were invited to take selfies with their dream home design. Numerous selfies were collected in the end of the exhibition and they form the collective memory of this interactive event.
